Curtis Byrd was born fourth in a family of six in Chicago, so he understands big family and working with brothers! He was blessed early with an astounding musical ear and began drumming at a young age sitting on a stack of phone books behind the drums of the children's church choir. By fourteen he had joined a gospel band and began to play with his grandfather's band, Son of Jones.
He went on to start an original stick show for school pep rallies, which took off, expanding to other local schools, and began giving drum lessons to children and teens while still in middle and high-school himself.
Byrd has worked as a full-time drummer since attending the Art Institute of Seattle and now resides in Los Angeles, where he continues doing what he he was meant to do - traveling the world with amazing bands/artists. (In addition to playing with the Makepeace Brothers, Curtis has performed with groups such as Baby Bash, Paula de Anda, Key Francis, Shaun Kama, Bus Boys, Emily Clibourn, and more)
Whenever performing onstage behind the drums you will like find Byrd plays MAPEX drums, his personal favorite.
